So i'm thinking of getting my new horsey a horse lick, partley to keep him busy when he is in his stable and partly because im hoping he wont need much other than grazing and hay so will be helpful to get some nutrients in. What ones do you recommend? Which ones to avoid? How long do they last? What about the cool ones that go in little plastic apples and stuff?

Thanks!

Ive found that my horses aren't keen on the likit ones and tend to try it and then never touch again - i now buy the bigger tub ones HOrselyx ones especially garlic one - works wonders really notice coat shine and they tend to use it when needed and haven't got bored of it yet - even little shetland has one

Agree with lotty I use the Himalayan licks and nothing else :) and they last a hell of a lot longer! Mines lasted 2 months so far.. Looking a little worse for wear but going strong! As appose to a likit

Agree. Lickits are just sugar, sugar, and a bit more............sugar.

Another one for salt lick only. :)

Try hanging a swede up if you want a tasty boredom buster.

I was also told by a vet one time that too much of the licks (where ponies/horses devour rather than just licking them) can lead to impaction colic. Obviously they would have to have rather a lot, but it's something else to throw into the equation.

I just have the Himalayan licks too. One for the stable and a large one hung up near the water trough in the field. Wont use the horselyx type ones as my horses are grey and skewbald with pink noses = very messy horses :D

Another one for likits for being only sugar, they are quite scrummy :p But not healthy at all.

I have a salt lick on a rope for buds, he doesn't use it unless he has been hunting and sweated a lot so just shows that horses know what they need!!!!
