The roof on my lorry is getting a bit iffy, so I need to do something about it.
A friend told me you can paint something on the roof, but wasn't sure what.

Does anyone know what it is and where I can get it please?

what you mean by iffy is it made of wood??? which case you can line it with aluminum i had mine done.

if it needs replacing then again new wood than alli

if is fiberglass dunno

you can use mastic roof or bitumen to go round the seals i did that cured the prob i got up and sat with a trowel and went round iike icing a cake . or you can use special metal paint hammerite which comes in a spray or a tin which again you can paint on seals etc you can buy from b&q or halfords or homebase or any hardware shop

tho halfords you wont buy bitumen or mastic only the hammerite if you cant get bitumen or mastic from homebase any small hardware shop should do it

whats actually wrong

when your done you could put a post code up there for security only cost £13 so if thieves take it police can spot from helicopter

Thanks for your help diamond_light.

I'm not sure what the roof is made of, it isn't fibreglass I think, because that lets light through? and mine doesn't.

It is a double layer, the inside layer is like a white hard board. This has started to sag and get black damp patches on it although no water is coming through yet.

So if I get some of the bitumen paint and cover the whole roof, that should help?

Thanks

have you been on top of the lorry to see it

if you can afford it i would have aluminium put on top if not i would get up there see if you can see where th e prob lies i am here to help if u want

bitumin allover will be expensive ideal ali on top i think get up there first see if u can see where prob lies

Dont try to bodge it with bitumen paint,it wont work for long and will make a proper repair more dificult.

sorry you cant say that till she sees whats up there which is what i suggested my roof was done by professionals and they used aluminum and sealant round the seams which wore off i since used bitumin in a 3 inch strip over there sealant and its no longer leaking and its been 2 years so far and bitumin is used on houses so there is nothing wrong with using it:rolleyes: its flexible and provides a good repair even the caravan man used a thinner strip round my air vent on the caravan I have also used it on stable roofs

and as for it being a bodge I asked *)*(&*&& box services and they recommended it or silicon sealant.

and as my thread said go up and see what the problem is before fixing it,as if the roof needs replacing thats a different matter

Houses dont flex like a horsebox ,and I have repaired more than a few horsebox roofs. The aluminium sheeting roofs foor example . One of the big problems is that rivets wear out and shear off . To fix this properly it is necessary to drill out all the rivets and use a proper adhesive sealant ,such as tigerseal (definately not silicon sealant) Unfortunatelt an adhesive sealant does not stick to biruman and what would otherwise be a simple job is turned into a much more expensive job. If your"professionals "had used the correct sealant on clean metal ,there is no way it would have "worn off".

well it did and they showed me what they used .

nuff said i am sticking to bitumin with mine works a treat

Ash pm me when you find out what the roof is like up there c if you can see what and where problem lies:)
