Which ones do you read?

I currently subscribe to one, as I have done for years, and I'm getting really disappointed. It all seems to focus on new methods of 'natural horsemanship' and has very basic advice for beginners. I counted 93 pages of advertisements in it this month, when there are about 160 pages total.

Are there any decent magazines out there?

My favorite is "Horse and Rider" which has improved a lot over the years. I still buy "Your Horse" but I don't think it's as good as it was. I don't like "Horse" much so only buy it I'm really bored! I'm sorry to say that I have copies of Your Horse going back to 1992. I doubt if I'll ever look at them again but I just hate the the thought of chucking them out! Does anyone remember "Gallop" magazine, it wasn't out for long??

I, too, have Your Horse's going back years and years. And I also have most of the issues of Gallop, too! I liked it and I was sorry when it stopped.

I seem to end up getting all the horse mags lol. Even though I enjoy them I am getting a bit annoyed with every issue being about "Parelli" and hacking!!! From what I can tell a lot of people I know aren't into Parelli so is it really that popular??!

I have subscribed to Horse & Rider for years but feel it has dumbed down a lot since I first started getting it - it looks better (more glossy) but is not so in depth as it used to be.

I used to get all three of them up until a few months ago, when I realised that the articles were going round and round and there was very little new in them. So I stopped getting any of them and don't miss them at all.

I dont subscibe to any magazines currently, but will get them if they have any useful looking articles.

I used to love Gallop.

I find the others are much for a muchness now sadly- some months they have practcaily the same articles, and they are not always very in depth.

I prefer to look out for cheap books on ebay instead.

That's why I stopped getting them- it was the same stuff over and over again.

I used to like Horse ages ago, when it had the true life stories in it!

Same here, better things to spend my scarce pennies on.

Gallop was an attempt to be a horsey womans magazine and it was not a bad idea. I have all the issues that they did, only 19 I think, perhaps I'll dig them out and see how much things have changed.

Used to adore Horse and Pony as a kid, back when it was decent

Buy H&H but tbh...occasionally wonder why...

Thats about it really...if im bored i occasionally buy Your Horse

used to Suscribe to Horse and Rider

but really dont like any of those sort of horsie mags

horse and rider and i too keep them all, theyre in my underwear cupboard like a secret stash of **** but not so exciting, to others anyway. however im teaching a young girl to ride and its great to give her the old copies to do her "homework/research" with!

None. Well, occasionally buy H&H if I'm stuck in Paddington station for a long time but not keen on that anymore either.

All the general horsey mags are a load of crap - same old same old. Haven't picked up anything like Your Horse for probably 2 years but it does all seem to be playing Parelli type games with your horse, what colour numnah goes best with which boots, and a supposed "review" of fly sprays, which is in fact just a run down of each and every product on the market.... load of crap!

I loved Horse and Rider but in the last 8 months the topics are as follows every week:
How to hack confidently
How to ride a prelim test
How to jump a cross pole
How to barefoot, treeless saddle, natural horsemanship your horse.

It used to have really excellent articles about horses behaviour (science orientated), advanced dressage movements and how to work towards them and really good advice on jumping. Am so fed up it has become rubbish so cancelled my subscription.

Now read Horse which is bareable, Eventing and H&H

I used to subscribe to 'the three' and to H&H I cancelled my subscription to H&H because it kept going missing in the post, but I buy it every week and raally enjoy it for he letters, news, articles and dressage reports. As for 'the three'. I have just cancelld two of my subscriptons. I couldn't work out which subscritions applied to which mag on my back account, so I just cancelled the two highest priced (I'm still awaiting the suprise). I took that appoach because I have noticed for a while that all three have the same main theme each month!

I noticed that in your horse this month, most of it was ads and very very basic articles. I agree the layout os a little better, but I also plan to cancel my subscription because I feel Im paying purely for advertising. And I think when your 12 months is up and they automatically sign you up for another year you should get a free gift too.

I subscribe to H & H and Eventing...although it bugs a little when they keep putting up the price then send you a letter saying " you may have noticed the better quality blah blah.. which is why its now costing you more" ...well no, actually, its the same as it was last month... why dont they just be honest and say we are putting it up because we want to get more cash from you!!

I only started reading it recently after i got fed up with horse and rider. Have just subcribed to it. Just my luck that it goes rubbish!!
