I have never had my horses back checked and I would not have it done unless I had specific concerns, ie a problem.
Do the majority of people here really have their horses looked at on a routine basis ?
My horse only has her teeth done every 6 months because they get sharp very quickly. My other horses have not had this problem and have always gone yearly.

Ive always had my horses checked on a regular basis.
Sometimes wandering why a horse wouldnt be performing up to their normal capability, if subtle problems aren't picked up on, and put it down to other factors such as teeth and behaviour, your practitioner maybe able to pick up on a potential cause in a routine check. Most behavioural problems Ive encountered are back/teeth related.
Back gets done at the end of the season, then again just before the start of the season (so March), then every 3 months during the season now he is being asked to work that bit harder (Novice level BE).
Teeth - every six months for a routine rasp by the dentist.
Shoes - every 5 weeks.
With the back and teeth, I find having them done that bit more often stops a niggly little problem escalating into a proper issue. I use a McTimoney Chiropractor and used to only get his back checked every six months until recently - would stick with every six months if he were at a lower level or not eventing.
Back, been checked once.... ever... that was about a month ago and his back was absolutely fine. Apart from being told he was bum high which we already knew!
shoes every 7 weeks
back 6 monthly unless we encouter a promblem in the meantime
i use chris caden-parker for back
teeth 6 monthly or inbetween if a problem is encountered although for the problem i'll get the vet out to check and the dentist to deal if anything wrong
My big chap is shod every 5 weeks in summer, but 6 weeks in winter (holiday)
His teeth are tried to be done every 12months but is a very big pain too do them. Needs doping (not easy) and has closed the gag before!!! Hasn't been done for 3 years before but his teeth were fine, so thats why hes left longer.
Back is done at start of season as MOT (when teeth done too) and then if I encounter a problem. He was fine at start of this year, check after about 3 months as I thought maybe niggle but fine (slight shortness down hill with off-fore in trot but had ripped that shoe off 3 weeks earlier) and is competeing up to 2** level.
