Horse Market - Worth buying now?

I dont know if this has already been discussed in good lengths, but the horse market being as it is.. is it really worth buying now and are there any good horses out there?

Ive just said yes to an 8 month colt (you might have seen the thread..) he's been on the market for a while, December time, however no one has even been to view him. Personally I think he will grow into a fantastic sort, I will always always be the first to admit to having a lot more to learn in life regarding horses (and most things!lol) even though I have spent as much time as I could around them and being fortunate to own lots of different types/ages/characters since loaning my first ancient pony 14 years ago.

Any way I digress... I would have thought this colt would have been snapped up, maybe im missing something??

Do you think there are some diamonds on the market not being snapped up or are most just horses people want to get rid of and are hanging on to the best of the crop?
 
Well if anyone sees any nice, cheap hunters for sale, let me know! Mine is off with an injury ATM and I'm tempted to buy another, but all the ones I like the look of are far too much for my bank balance! All this talk of cheap horses and desperate sellers, yet I can't find anything to suit in the bargain price range! Almost tempted to snatch my dad's horse from her loan home.....
 
It's definately a buyers market right now. I really do think that there are some good quality horses and ponies out there going for a pittance.

A lady I know went to Melton Sales last year with her friend, who bought a sec A for £50. After a bit of research it turned out that the pony had very good breeding and was registered. I've only been to the sales once, last year, and that was really to look at the tack sale, but had a nosey at the horses, and was surprised at the quality of the horses that went to market - I was expecting it to be all old knacks!
 
I have just bought a lovely little coloured filly to make 17hh+. I got her for 50% less than the original price as I did watch her ad then jumped in when she put open to offers (it was on FB) so I think there are bargains out there but definately not for the 99% safe horses they are still worth every penny people ask for them.
 
Hmm, never seem to have too much trouble with the market to be honest! Not with the cobs at least.

How cheap is cheap Marmalade? We have a a couple of hunters in at the moment. A big 17.3hh hunter gelding, 12 years old....big gentlemans weight carrying hunter type. Only ever been used as a hunt and hack horse his whole life, perfect novice ride, will take a beginner out safely etc :) And a 15.2hh 5y/o Irish x chap who's been out about 6 times this season...not a 'novice' ride but in no ways naughty or anything similar. He's just very very flashy with big paces and will make someone a very nice hunter or competiton horse.
 
The trouble with youngsters is the cost of keeping them until they have a use.

I know people who have bought them to keep on livery at a cost of at least £2,000 a year. Pay that for 4 years and you could have spent £8000 plus the original cost. And all for a horse you have no idea what it will turn out like.

Not really surprising the market for babies is not good at the moment. You can pick up a talented horse in work for a decent price at the moment.

The big boy sounds lovely and just what I would like, but way too big for me I'm afraid, he wouldn't fit in my trailer for starters!! I am probs best not to buy anything right now, there is one I can borrow for hunting ATM, I'm just being greedy!
 
Ah haha no worries! If you wanted smaller I've just found a new 'favourite' on the yard. By means of a 14.1h cob! Hunting cob through and through - real fun turbo cob type, stag of a jump on it too! :p

*waves bye bye and hides as I'll get slapped on wrists again....*
 
I think there are some good deals to be done. I was looking on a dealers website the other day and the horses were far cheaper than 18 months ago.
