Horse meat in supermarket burgers!

Horse meat is very good for you, low fat etc. I don't eat cows because I don't like them.
Also the reason I'm happy we breed our own pigs and make our own sausages.

That said it's totally unacceptable not to know what you're eating.
I'd be more upset for the people who don't eat pork as part of their religion finding this out.

Thats why I use my local trusted butcher uses local farmers. Makes own burgers, sausages etc. No Tesco since Halal etc and the arrogant response I had from them.

Not a lot changes then .

Anyone remember the Wimpey Burger scandal about 1979-80? It was me did most of the donkey work in the inital analysis of mountains of burgers, as that was my first job on leaving school. In their beefburgers we found pig, sheep, lamb, chicken, etc etc - put me off burgers for life other than the yummy ones my local butcher makes from scratch.

I have no problem with eating horse meat - it's a very good healthy low fat meat - I do have an issue with the fact it was undisclosed. I like to know what I am eating and make my own choice, if it say's beef on the box I expect beef, not horse or chicken or anything else!! I have long had suspicions about cheap supermarket burgers and prefer mine from the butcher or make my own from scratch!!

Interesting, I will use this information the next time my feral carthorse, Little Ted, takes the micky. He is still undecided on his career path, this might help focus his mind.

I dont eat horses because I like them ,and there is a serious
welfare issue with horse transport for meat, where cows ,sheep and pigs have been bred to be passive dometicated animals, horses suffer stress and get distressed quickly with rough handling
so anyone who condones horse meat apart from the disposal of the old or sick and used in the pet/animal feed bussiness isn't a horse person ...

ive got no issue as long as im told........

then i will choose to eat it or avoid it.....

i dont however have an issue with people eating horses! as long as they are transported and killed humanely.....

I buy my meat from local utchers and I know all the meat etc is very local. I have no objection to trying horse though.

Dons tin hat and runs fast

I'm not a vegetarian because I like animals. I'm a vegetarian because I hate plants.

On a more serious note. I have no qualms with people eating horse meat that was specifically bred for the food industry. In Britain we breed for a competative horse or a pet. We don't farm horses the same way we do cows and sheep. What if the tables turned? What if cows were bred specifically as pets and farmers ran horses out on the fields to go for slaughter from the word go? Would you have so much of a problem with it then? Human nature is fickle.

Personally I don't eat burgers, in fact I don't eat red meat currently but I will try and get back into the habbit, but I would still like to know what goes into my food before I shovel it down my throat. Though to be fair, with my cooking skills it would all be charcoal anyway so it wouldn't matter lol!
