Horse "needs" a lie-in

Anyone else have this "problem". Morning stables for me is around 6am (through necessity). This never used to be a problem but as he is getting older I have noticed that some mornings I feel like if he could speak he would say "FFS are you here already? Can't you go away and come back again in an hour?". He also hovers at the barn door when I go to turn out as if to say "excuse me mother but it is still dark!!". He is a much cheerier/happior person at the weekend when he sometimes gets to stay in bed till 7-7.30 am. Obviously this is not an issue when we have plenty of daylight!!! I do feel like a mean mummy but I have to work to keep him in the manner to which he has become accustomed

Anyone else have a horse like this or is it just my precious boy turning into a grumpy old man

Mine is the complete opposite!

6am is most definitely NOT early enough to go out.

She stands in at weekends when someone else feeds her before I arrive, but I usually get there after 9am due to other committments (which I am making efforts to change so she doesn't have to wait so long for me) and she works herself and annoys everyone by whinnying incessantly!

Yeah, he used to be like that but just seems to be wanting his "home comforts" more now. God help me if I ever turned up later than 7.30 am, then it would be the opposite problem!! As you say Bless him!
 
Tyler is loathe to leave his stable in the winter. He ran back to his stable this morning and it took about 15 minutes to convince him he was only going to go out for a short priod. He far prefers being tucked up with plenty of haylage, his treatball and a warm rug on winter and hates going out any earlier than 9am.

Such a hard life!!

today because I was 30 minutes late turning out this morning due to having a bad case of bronchitis and feeling like death. (Must have picked up some bug at YHL) Anyway Old Mare was so cross she couldnt eat her breakfast and just stood weaving in annoyance wanting to GO OUT NOW. When I did turn out they both did a couple of laps of the field at a flat out gallop just to impress upon me that THIS WONT DO and must not be repeated

My boy is happy as long as he is the FIRST horse to be fed and made a fuss of in the mornings. If I am late to the yard and someone else is there first, he has a HUGE strop - this lasts all day, with me getting the cold shoulder, and him being a pig to ride/lead etc etc etc. He is a complete diva, and demands that I be at his beck and call at all times. Whoever said horses do not have personailties and we just imagine it needs to meet Ben. Everyone who meets Ben soon changes their mind!
 
We've got a horse on livery who is definitely NOT a morning person - changing his rugs before turnout, you take your life into your hands!

Then he practically drags me out to the field though, so he's obviously not averse to going out. I think he's just plain grumpy.

Mine are out, but if you turn up extra early in the morning you can catch Star lying down snoozing. She tends to look most perturbed if you catch her. We have a joke that we've caught her with her curlers still in!

Ron is like this all year! but in the winter, if he could be in 24-7 he would be!! he loves his stable, and yesterday had an argument with OH about it!
OH had put him in briefly when he got back from hunting so that he could go and get Tom in from the field, and when he came to get him out to wash off his legs, Ron's neck got longer and his feet stayed put!

he's a funny sausage.
 
Mine hates mornings. Some mornings I go down between 5:30 and 6 am he is fast asleep lay down, he will lift his head to see who it is then goes back to sleep. I end up mucking out around him as he wont get up!!

Once I have mucked out around him he will get up only because he has to!
 
I used to ask Merls if he wanted to go out...by putting his headcollar near his head and saying yes or no, if he wanted to go out he would put his head down and towards the headcollar so off we went....but 9x's out of 10 he would want to stay in bed he loved his stable that much...

Mins on the hand would love to be out for most of the day, she is a princess and wont go through mud if she can help it, but will want in early is weather is awful and stand near the gate shouting...but as she's on box rest she doesnt get a choice at mo, but she's happy enough munching on a net and has her likkit, salt lick and jolly ball and has her day clothes on to keep chill off.
 
Mine likes to go out for a few hours and usually laps the field a few times before settling to graze, but if anyone walks past the gate after she has been out for a couple of hours she'll stand at the gate and demand to be put back in to sleep.
On Mondays and Thursdays I have to ride at 6.30 before I go to uni so usually leave Mum to feed and turn out after I have ridden while I fly off to shower and change. Madam is not happy at being ridden in the cold before breakfast and when I open the stable door I am usually greeted by her backside!! And she will be as difficult as possible to tack up, not standing still and stamping her feet on the floor while I'm trying to put her boots on and generally being a pain. She is not a morning person at all and doesn't appreciate nasty mummy taking off her warm jim jams and being dragged into the school in any weather.
 
hehe yup mine's another one that would prefer to stay in and definately doesnt do early mornings. you have to drag him out to field and 5pm, hes there waiting by the gate saying in now please!!!!
 
My mare used to have her breakfast then go back to bed - and look at you with disgust when she was made to get up to go out! Used to have to literally push her into the field if too much mud! She lives out 24/7 now but still scares new people on the yard by lying flat out for hours at a time. I've lost count of the number of calls I've had cos people think she's dead ...

Completely understand whre he is coming from - I hate getting up that early and so does my horse. I used to tie him up with a haynet while I did mucking out etc and turn-out as my last job to give him more time to eat in the Winter.

Now due to work commitment he is on part-livery and has a lie in until 8 or 9 am and comes in by 2.30 which he much prefers.
