Horse never been wormed - Advice please

Hi, I have just bought a 3 year old welsh D Mare. Apparently she has never been wormed, does anyone have any advice as to which wormer to use etc... Thank You :-)
 
Agreed, panacur 5 day. But be warned, if never wormed before might be worth doing a worm count more regularly than you would otherwise & worming accordingly, at least at first as heavy burdens can take more than one lot.
 
Fourth panacur 5 day and and worm count. Speak to your vet or somewhere like Westgate labs.Tapes will need to be addressed at some point.
 
Yep, another for Panacur 5 day guard, it should be the one used on any horse that you don't know the worming history of. We were advised by our SQP to use this and then worm 4 weeks later with one of the stronger wormers.
 
I would talk to the vet and get your horse on a proper programme as you may have to have several goes at this. Also depends whereabouts in the country you are. Panacur is almost useless in the South East because of the resistance (hence they developed the 5 day one ;)).
 
At the risk of going against the general thread consensus, I am going to suggest eqvalan duo (http://www.viovet.co.uk/Non-Prescri...rmers-Eqvalan/c119_116_483_6253/category.html)

In terms of having all bases covered, you can't go wrong with it. Also, particularly at this time of year with the incidents of bots subsequent bot egg ingestion, I feel that the Eqvalan Duo will cover everything, and I think it should be fine even if your horse has never been wormed before!

PLEASE DO NOT FOLLOW THIS ADVICE
If you kill too many worms at once you could kill the horse with a blockage of dead worms
 
If it was mine I would worm count and then speak to westgate lab , therefore you know what you are dealing with.
 
I would be tempted to have a worm count first & take advice from the findings. I use Westgate labs but other worm count places are availiable (vets will also do it & can blood test for tapeworm)
