I bought my horse the fairfax Gareth dressage saddle a few weeks ago and he is generally much better in it however since I have started using it he has started kicking out a little or humping his right hind leg up when I use my right leg , it may be a coincidence but it def coincided with the new saddle.
I know it puts my leg a little further back but I'm still a little concerned.

Has anyone else had similar?

Thanks!

Yes , was fitted ,
I wonder if it's because his movement has greatly improved he has used muscles he didn't know he had and has made himself a bit sore, I can also get my leg on much more so I'm getting more oompoh!

Sounds like a reaction to your leg rather than the saddle from your posts.
If you can get your leg on more effectively and in a better place in the new saddle he may need a bit of time to get used to it.

Happy with mine, no noticeable adverse issues. I too wonder if this is just a reaction against your leg. May be worth getting someone to video you riding him to see if that reveals anything.

I have a fairfax mono flap jump saddle, and eventually took the plunge and bought the girth too..... Put it on the horse and she walked out lame every time in it, would eventually walk it off/get used to it after 10/15mins but slightly embarrassing at a show/lesson, I sold it and bought something else instead!

I love mine although I am only a few weeks in. Interested to hear more about shortstuff99's comment though. Hadn't heard about this.

TBH I don't know too much about it. It was on the BD forum where some members had mentioned having a few issues and it turned out there was an error with the tree, which I believe fairfax replaced for them?

I'm in the planning to get the Andrew Hoy Jump and the Gareth Dressage in March, so I'm really interested in feedback on them, any comments positive or negative would be appreciated.

Where are you in the UK and who fitted it for you? PM me if you don't want to post, I'm in Wiltshire.

Can't comment on the saddle as don't have one, however it could just be a reaction to your leg being in a different place?
I usually ride with stirrups at jump length but if I move them to dressage length occasionally, my horse always humps and generally gets grumpy about it for the part of the session till he gets used to it!

I thought I read on another thread that some of their saddles had issues with the tree? May have made it up as cannot find the thread now! Might be worth ringing Fairfax themselves and asking how to proceed.

Horses can change shape quickly and if he's sensitive then even an apparently invisible change can cause issues. Flocking compresses at the front so always best to have it checked within 2-3 months of first having it fitted.
