Ok I know this sounds weird, but or some reason my horse wont wee in his stable.

You think this is lovely... nice clean mucking out.

But actually it creates other problems, when I go to ride in the morning hes a bugger to ride as hes desperate for a wee.

When you let him go in the field, he runs off to the same spot to pee straight away, like a fountain, hes been holding it all night.

I have tried giving him a huge bed in his stable, but it makes no difference.

its very odd has anyone else had this?

Does he need to be in the stable over night? If so, is there somewhere you can put him in the morning to have a wee? I can understand a horse not wanting to wee somewhere he has to stay for hours at a time and may also want to lie down x

He does have to be in, hes a fence runner when other horses come in. lol.

I think im going to ask, if I can use the very closest fields in the morning for 5 mins to let him wee. As its a fairly small field I should be able to catch him again.

I dont mind him not weeing in there, its just so bizarre never known anything like it.

Usually it is because there is not enough bedding and they do not like the splash. You say you have used deep bedding but what is deep?

An inch or two is not enough, try using a 12" deep area of straw and see if that helps. You can gradually cut the area down when he gets use to peeing inside.

My dads horse did this. We used to have him bedded on a deep bed of straw, he would cross his legs until morning! If he couldn't be turned out my dad used to walk him around until he found his wee spot!

Not exactly the same but for the lat month or so I'm having a problem with my horse apparently really needing a wee when I'm riding so being a pain, he'll then go for a huge wee when input him away, he lives out so can't really monitor how much he's weeing. Everyone has suggested I try an train him to wee on command, so wherever you see him wee, whistle and give him a treat, apparently this works, I'm going to give it a try anyway as my horse has turned into a monster since this started happening!

The stable had about 6inches deep and covered 90% of the stable.

Think I might try to on command thing, just see if it works. As i know hes going to wee as soon as i let him go.

my friends horse does this, they have to turn him out in morning for 10 mins while he plods off to wee in the exact same place in the field then brings him back in to ride. he looks a bit miffed sometimes as he's normally out all day, he kind of looks at you like "well today went quick  )
They dont know why he does it but if your horse was THAT desperate he would go in the stable. before you ride could you walk him around for a bit until he wees?

Two of my mares do this. If I'm keeping them in, or planning to ride in the morning, I just take them out in hand to a patch of grass/arena to wee, then pop them back in their stables.

If I am riding very early, I might walk them once round the arena in hand before gettign on, and they would usually wee in that time.

My friend has this problem with her mare! Like you she has tried everything to no avail, so we now have a "wee run" routine. Whoever is last off the yard at night gives the mare her wee run...sounds ridiculous but that's the way it is!!
She always has her wee in the same place and is wee'ed in the morning on the way out to the field too. I think it's such a habit now and that's the way it is. It doesn't seem to worry her, I suppose it's like a dog, they seem to learn to hold it in. And like you say, mucking out is easy - unlike my disgusting gelding who widdles for England.

My mare won't wee in her bed always been the same no matter what she is bedded on. This has never been an issue with ridden work. Just clean altogether two poops that's it she is a dream to muck out... But otherwise a stroppy mare!

hi, have any of these horses develop kidney infection/ sheath/ urinary tract infections? or has it caused any other problems? my gelding does this and his stale is sometimes quite cloudy and i worry that being stabled from 6pm-8am without weeing is going to cause him to develop a problem.

My old share horse wouldn't wee in her stable. Her owner used to take her out first thing in the morning, but eventually realised the mare deemed it acceptable to go in a bucket and would assume the position until her owner put the bucket between her back legs. She would also go on the way in from the field. AFAIAA, it never caused her any problems and the mare lived to a grand old age.

My mare wont wee in the stable in the summer when she is out all night and in during day, and for a few weeks when she is in at night her bed is dry but then returns back to normal, I have noticed she always goes when she is getting her short feed in morning and evening weird must be an excitement responce.
Agree about the bed not being thick enough many wont go, she has a very thick straw bed no mats.

why not try reducing the shavings coverage to 50% of the stable and using the extra to really puff up the bed? as you are on rubber that should be fine?

I would train him into a bucket as suggested above; take him to the spot he wee's in the field with a big bucket filled with shavings, give a command when he goes and hope he starts to associate the bucket with going. You never know, you might be able to leave the bucket in his stable overnight eventually for him to go in...how awesome would that be?! (Think I might try that myself...)
