Horse now living out

I asked for some advice a while back re letting my horse live out 24/7.

Finally bit the bullet now the snow has gone and moved him today.

He settled straight away and his eyes almost popped out when he saw the grass and space he had.

Still happily stuffing his face when I left and hasn't even come up to the gate. So hopefully he will be a happier boy

I've just taken the plunge and done exactly the same with my mare - a known primadonna!!! who has always been stabled with turnout.
well I didnt sleep a wink last night but this morning she was still alive would not even be caught which is not like her, she;s been prancing about and having a fab time with her two new field comapnions, think it might be the way forward

It's only since I retired my other one and noticed how happy he was that I thought of doing it for this one. He's a hardy little thing so he should be fine.

Since seeing the retired one thrive whereas he was hard to keep weight on when he was stabled, I think it is the way forward

I've just done the same, moved them in to another field and they are refusing to catch so this will be there first night out too (well for 2 of them).

They were delighted so who am I to argue.

I think most horses prefer to liev out, given the choise. Pleased it has gone well.

Mine only come in if it rains (in case they dissolve obviously) they are so much happier out. It's a huge field full of grass, no mud and loads of natural shelter so I would be silly not to!

Same here he's always lived out but now 13 and hunts twice a week he was getting stiff with the cold so this winter he's been in at night which he has loved but tonight it was 9 degrees in his sheltered field so I left him out big feed big hay net just like in his stable and it wasn't wet if it get any colder or wet he will be back in.

I've left mine out now too. She was coming in at night and other two ponies live out 24/7. I've never felt entirely happy with her coming in on her own although she was never upset. Now the snows gone I decided she could stay out (we have plenty of grazing). She is really happy with this and I sleep better now and can lay in at weekends, whoop!!
