My poor horse is off to the Royal Vet College on Monday for a bone scan to try to work out what on earth is wrong with him. Basically he has changed from poppet to grouch, won't canter on the right lead and is refusing to be lunged - turning in on the person lungeing him, ears back, swishing tail etc. He hasn't been lame, unsound or uneven but obviously 'isn't right'. So after lots of time with the back man and a course of pain killers / anti inflammatories, time off, and a vet exam, he has been referred.

I am going out of my mind worrying what they will find. Could be anything of course, but I can't help but think it will be something dreadful and he'll be 'broken' for good. Having lost my previous horse last December I can see only gloom and doom at the mo.

Any pointers as to what may show up on a bone scan? the sort of injury that could be causing this? I know I just have to wait and see, but I feel so helpless. Poor chap.

i know the feeling! mine is lame at the moment and going to vets nxt wk. I have now decided that its something dreadful and genetic. just which they could haveseen her sooner so that i didn't have this time to think up dredful things it maybe! gd luck

Not dealt with him directly but he was the lead clinician when my silly horse kicked himself.

I've been up there a few times as the vet I use is one of the Equine practice there so we get referred alot.
They have let me stay for alot of procedures and explained what is going on. As it's a teaching hospital they are used to having observers.
If there is an overnight stay, they take really good care of them too, huge stables, massive beds, whatever you want them fed.
When Frankie had to stay in for allergy testing, the guy looking after him called me to let me know how he was. Not an official vet report, just a call to let me know how he was and how he behaved when walked out which i thought was nice

Good luck
