My horse is a renowned escape artist - little sod!
This morning I had a phonecall from a walker (we have a for emergencies notice on the gate with my number on it) to say that Loki was out of the field and round grazing at the cottages!
My field neighbour kindly put him in for me (I'm an hour's walk away ) and put the electric fence back up.
What had happened was he'd barged through the electrified tape to get out of the paddock then barged through the non electrified tape round a slightly lower part of dry stone wall, climbed up the bleedin wall (he used to do this at my last yard, I swear he's part mountain goat!) and gone for a wander!
I only have one energiser atm (and obviously it's rubbish!) and can't afford another one till at least the 11th of this month! I know he isn't prone to wandering far when he escapes but I'm still terrified he'll take it into his head to wander the woods (which go on for miles!) or work his way out to the housing area not far or even worse (my worst nightmare!) meander down onto the extreamly busy main road a mile or so down the road!
What am I going to do in the meantime?! I'm going to open up the paddocks and use the energiser for the small area in front of the wall - hopefully it'll give a better shock because it's only about 2 meters accross. But if anyone has a genius horse proofing idea I'd be so grateful for it, I'm at a bit of a loss and now going through all the "what if" senarios
