Horse pawing in trailer on way home!

Re the driving back and fore to the show....the going is ok....it it seems to be leaving the show that is the problem...l have done everything else you suggested...apart from the other transport....as I don't have any other and a lorry is not an option. She goes front to back...not side to side and there is totally no scrabbling....she can do all this at slow/faster speeds or on corners.

By backwards and forwards, I mean so she quits making an emotional association with which way she is going, so a 5 min round trip to start, building up, so the going and coming back is all in one journey. I would not even go to the show until she would do a longish round trip.

If she started acting up on the way home I would be tempted to turn round and go back.

Looking at it from the horse's point of view she prefers to go home. When she paws she goes home (she has got the cause and effect wrong, probably because at first she was tense and pawed, and later she arrived home - so she now thinks that when she paws she arrives home).

Whenever she was pawing we would not be going home, we would be back at the show. Rest a bit and try again. Pawing = go back to the show.

ETA - as you said she travels OK on the way there the different vehicle was not for her benefit, it was so

1. She does not cause an accident throwing the trailer around.

2. you are safe to go see to her once moving. I would not do that in a trailer but would from the living of a walkthrough large lorry.

as the horse paws it is an uncomfortable feeling seen this work, only 6 nuts needed or up to 8 just put it on like one of the petal over reach boots

I had forgotten but heard of this working in the past, definitely well worth a try.
 
My horse does this too, on the way to something and on the way back. Especially on the motorway, as it's straight as can be... when it's windy roads, she's happy and has to watch her balance. With her, I think it's down to being bored. She always has a haynet, eats out of that and paws at the same time. I also have no clue what to do about it... she does it so hard, that I sometimes think she might smash through the floor one day :P Maybe it's because she's impatient? I think this is why my horse does it.

I think I got the wrong end of the stick and I think you may well have hit on solution here. I shall definitely give the going back to the show/venue a go before I try anything else.....small steps...

I am not sure I would give this a go.....I would hate her to panic if she tried to get them off in a confined space, but I do appreciate you mentioning this.
