our mare is out from 8-5 daily but ive noticed that she has started to constantly dig holes in the mud.she is turned out individually as she gets stroppy but can touch her neighbours.she is a very impatient sort but i dont understand why shes doing it when out.my only thought is shes bored as had time off after dental work and mctimony so will start work again this week and will be regular.she is well rugged has hay etc no hard feed and just had a full mot.weve had her 8 months and it only seems to be more of an issue just recently..the fact that its so muddy doesnt help as shes digging a hole and i dont want her to damage herself.any thoughts on how i can reduce this behaviour.

Both mine dig holes on occasion but not all the time, they seem to do it in summer to throw up dust before rolling, and will do it in winter in puddles, just for fun it seems.

Could it be a boredom thing as she is out on her own?

im thinking boredom or temper also maybe hormones as think shes in season. i put a snack ball in the field .kept her amused for a minute then restarted digging and had a paddy.its probably time of year and not enough work.
