Evening all, I have a quick question for you. The last couple if days I've noticed my horse has been peeing a lot more than normal not sure if it's anything to worry about but thought a few second opinions wouldn't do any harm. He doesn't seem in any discomfort in anyway at all, still seems his usual self and doesn't seem to be drinking much more water than normal but is peeing loads! Thoughts?

My mare was peeing loads, then I noticed the old salt lick in the stable left from my old horse, she had eaten loads of it. I have now removed it and she is fine. Mind you she was drinking loads with that as well.

I have one who pees a lot more than normal when we feed him alfalfa. We don't feed it to him now, and peeing is in the normal range - it does fluctuate as with us, so if the temperature goes up, he drinks more and pees more, if the grass is wetter he pees more, etc. There are quite a few things that can affect how much the horse pees - an older horse who's very wet in the stable may be developing Cushings, but there are lots of other things that determine how much a horse pees as well :)

He's only 7 for those who asked, only reason I was so concerned was because he hadn't been drinking any more water than usual, nothing he's been fed has changed which was why I couldn't work it out! He has only just come back into work last week after 1 month off which someone mentioned could be the cause of it. Seems to have gone back to normal over the last 24 hours so hopefully was just an off couple of days! Will keep a close eye though. :)

Lot of water in the grass, lot of sunshine in the sky encouraging more drinking... Personally there are many excusable reasons at the moment that don't spell certain death.
