Horse people and common sense

In every human being there is an amount of common sense, some people have more than others, but rest assured it is there in everyone, or so we are led to believe.
Do you ever come on to this forum, sypathise with an owner/rider who is genuinely having troubles, spend time and effort creating a well thought reply with sensible, grounded suggestions only to have it ignored or often thrown back in your face.
Do you ever come on HHO and sit, wide eyed whilst reading posts and think "dear god, this person is a genuine idiot."
The amount of times I have recently thought "why has this person got a horse" whilst reading these forums is amazing, yet it still happens.
I'm no wonderwoman and I'm not professing to be, but I'd like to think I have a reasonable amount of common sense, in life and with my horses.
What bothers me daily is how some people, with their lack of common sense and often lack of any kind of knowledge can just buy a horse, to do with what they like.
Take this Minxy case, a stupid woman, who is so uninformed on life that she genuinely thinks she is doing the best thing for her equine, WHY?
These people that breed from anything, to sell on and let loose into the world horses with conformation defects and god knows what else passed from one person with no knowledge or common sense to another.
That all time favourite line of mine "I bought a mare because if she ever goes lame I can breed from her." WHY? Is it a well bred mare or are you just another one with no common sense.
I love my horses, and I love my horsey friends, I can honestly say I have only ever met a couple of real idiots in the flesh when it comes to horsey people, and I'm in and out of the horsey world constantly.
What is it about these complete and utter horsey nutters and the HHO forums, do they come on here to group together and continue to leave me gob smacked every time I log on?
 
It's not just in horses tho is it, go on any forum, dogs, cats, cars etc and you will find people who quite possibly should not be allowed out on their own let alone own an animal!
 
I'm nodding my head with both of you.
Everyone needs to learn somewhere but for the horses sakes, please do it before you buy your own; there are plenty of good books let alone instructors and experienced friends to learn from; at least give yourself and your horses a chance to survive by having the rudiments at least.
It's people like the Minxy crowd that almost make me think there should be an exam you have to pass to even let you own a horse of any description.
 
I have known some complete and utter morons in the real horsey world... Actually, quite a few of them!

However.

When it comes to forums I think it's generally because the sort of person who asks advice from people they don't know isn't quite right anyway. Whenever I ask my RL horsey friends and family for advice, it often contradicts what the forum has said.

The difference being, these people know Dorey. Even my vet is confused by her at times... It's impossible for someone to give advice on a moment in time without knowing the animal, the owner and the situation on the whole!
So why someone would ask people who cannot give advice for advice is a little beyond me!

Money. Its not naivety, lack of common sense or stupidity. It is all about money making opportunities or wanting maximum value for money from a broken down horse. They all may be ethically dodgy, with a poor chance of a long term happy outcome for the horses involved, but the reason for them doing it is money and it isn't completely illogical if you think about it.
 
I too agree. I like to offer help both on line and in person, and I speak from experience of many years. People can take notice or not, that is up to them but if they disagree then put forward solid reasons as to why they disagree and let it lead to an interesting discussion rather than a slanging match.

What you say is so right and what is really frightening is that these people often have children!
 
LOL, its not just the horsey world is it.

In my job we are so bogged down with policies and procedure it a full time job to read them. But still you get the idiots.

I am actually considering writing a "common sense" policy, do you think it would do any good.
