I still have my free Horse & Pony hoof pick somewhere ! Wasn't there a magazine horse called Silent King as well? A chestnut Arab or Anglo-Arab? He was so beautiful.
I remember my Horse and Pony hoofpick well! Pink hard plastic if I remember right. Blinking tough thing it was too.
And I had an autograph book from YRC!
My old (young) landlady brought round some furniture for my old room and the wardrobes had horse and pony posters in it from the 80s
I had a brilliant Blyth Tait poster on my bedroom door! And downlands cancara!
The stories in PONY magazine now are a bit rubbish compared to the old H&P ones. They used to do photo-story specials didn't they hehe and competitions to appear in the stories
Cancara! they had a mini series about him-he was my dream horse! I first spotted carl hester in h&p-he was standing with his chestnut horse, hair all tousled.. he was so dreamy! and i was clueless..
I loved how there was always interviews with karen dixon and mary king.
such a shame it's gone so silly and chavvy
I've just found my H&P hoofpick - bright red plastic, the rossette (blue with YRC and a horse in red) and there are a couple of Freddie stickers (which I think came with the pack) on my ancient grooming kit box. I'm pretty sure you got a pen and badge as well (red and white?) , and an A5 print of Fred.
I've still got my H&P progress scheme rosettes, does anyone else remember them? You had to get your instructor to sign off you were capable for each level. H&P was great, Pony was probably the more chavvy one back in the 80's. I got my first copy of each of them on the saame day as my granny treated me - still have them somewhere! Also had Horse sense, Gallop and old Horse & riders kicking about until recently.
Yes, I remember the progress scheme. Me and my friend filled them in ourselves and just pretended. Infact that was something we did a lot. Pretend, pretend, pretend,,,Hmmm, I might still be pretending and have lost sight of reality. LOL.
I remember the H&P hoof pick too. I remember being so proud of the freebies. They were like treasured items.
I can remember having the big poster on my wall of "Sefton" and I think Ryans Mill with Caroline Bradley riding him. (I may have got that wrong too) I remember when Caroline died and it was the first time I really remember dealing with death and feeling very odd about it.
