Hi, i'm trying to find out the population of horses in the south of England. Well, any sort of equestrian statistics really- numbers of riders, numbers of horses, spending and so on.

I have managed to find info for the whole of the UK on the BHS site but have not been able to find anywhere specifically giving details broken down into regions. counties and so on...

Anyone know a good place to look.

Thanks

The British Equestrian Trade Association commission and sell surveys (although you can get some info free, I think) which break down the population of equidae by region.
Hope this helps you a bit.
If you don't have any luck, PM me cos I've probably got the stats somewhere.

You won't. No one keeps these records. Even DEFRA and the BHS are very vague. The BETA probably has the best idea.

I wanted to know some figures to show to the County Council to show how much horse owning puts into to the local economy and had a real job finding a figure. I considered doing a parish by parish survey and getting local people to count up how many horses and ponies they knew about!
