Alot changes in 2 years and the irish economy has been destroyed by the worldwide recession. As a result, horse prices are well, well back. Depends on what you're looking for but there's great value out there. It's not a great time of year to go buying but there's still choice at both Goresbridge and Cavan. I'd expect really big catalogues again in Feb/March - and the economy is not going ot recover any time soon so there'll still be huge value. And of course, shipping back to Eng starts from £200.
I'm a regular there, being based in Ireland we usually have a few for clients. From what I can see well used hunters make around the 4-6k (euro).
I wouldnt buy a competition horse because they are usually there because of some demons (as said earlier, quirky, bad vet cert etc), however you do often get a gem, but you will pay for it because they are rare at the sales, you could buy the same horse much cheaper privately.
A good riding club / amatuer horse can be picked up for between 3 - 7k. For something that will go on to do more you can pay between 7 - 15k at the moment.
Three year old future horses are usually a good bet if they look & move well and the breeding is desirable, but be careful of them being "over produced".
Foals are extremely good value at the moment as people are selling them for less than the original covering fee to cut their costs / over stocking etc
