Horse Prices - medical issues but still £10K plus

One failed vetting for hock arthritis so on the search again, so far I have found several 10K + horses will all sorts of issues in the advert, - i.e. tie backs, kissing spine surgery etc.

Is this really where the market is currently ?

they might be priced that way but won't sell; it's a hang-up from when the market went mental during the covid lockdowns, I think.

I think the advertised prices are wishful thinking. They won’t sell at those prices x

Some issues, like a successful tie back, I can imagine people would pay that much if the horse has been competitive in any field and is back out competing. Other things which can cause ongoing problems like KS or arthritis - it's a lot of money to risk. At least if it's mentioned in the ad then you can skip over it rather than being told at a viewing after travelling for hours already.

DH was talking to someone about this and they said they put in a cheeky offer that was accepted, just because they’re advertised for that doesn’t mean they’ll sell for that! (He may be being hopeful )

Guess it depends on what sort of horse it is. Relatively green with medical issues, not a chance. Excellent schoolmaster with medical issues, yeah you’d still be paying 5 figures.

I don’t think so, unless they were prey special! Saying that though I know someone who spent £20k on an event horse with shivers after Covid….personally I wouldn’t. It’s has issues since needless to say

I think the market is dropping off now and these horses aren’t selling. But there are still hopeful sellers out there!

Probably people hoping to get back what they (over)paid.

I often wonder the mentality when people accept their car will depreciate by £1,000s but bizarrely expect horses to increase in value!
