Hi,

Friends horse sadly going to have to be PTS due to unsoundness, he is in pain alot now so it is the last nice thing we can do for him.

What are your opinions on the best way to have a horse pts? I have heard horror stories about the injection....

Please help!

Thanks

I have had one of mine pts and stayed with a friends horse, both had the injection and both were really peaceful with no dramas. It is the only method i would want to use. I think the gun would be too traumatic.

I had my beloved mare put down a couple off weeks ago after she got kicked in the field and broke her elbow by my other horse in with her. My world fell apart and wanted to give up horses for good but can't, the worse bit now is seeing her empty stable every day she was always the first to say hello in the mornings. I went for injection and was very good. She just lied down and went to sleep with her head in my arms and it ment I could stay with her and cuddle her until she was gone. If I had her shot there is no way I would have stayed to see that at all.

I had Ellie pts on Friday and opted for the bullet.

It was much less traumatic that I thought it would be, the guy who did it was fantastic and she was dead before she hit the floor.

Initially I had had reservations about the gun, I imagined all sorts of violent scenario's but it was peaceful and swift. I would definately do it that way again.

I very much agree, it was far less traumatic than I ever expected and would always opt for the gun now. The speed and effectivness seems much kinder to me.

I've only just seen this. At the risk of re-opening a bleak period in your life, I am so very sorry. I'd been wondering what news there was of her. Many many condolences.

RIP Ellie xxx
