horse pulling rugs forward when grazing-anyone else?

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

horse had very old original rambo combo rug, and has always pulled it right forward when grazing, so it gapes badly at front and bum hangs out the back. assumed it was because it was the very old style and have just bought a new (but not rambo) combo rug which suits his slim build much better and sits better, but he's still pulling it forward an awful lot when grazing!

doesnt happen to his combo MW (weatherbeeta) but i tried my HW weatherbeeta on and it immediately moved forward!

does anyone else's horse manage this?!

any way to stop it? (already has a snug fillet string on it)??????
 
One of my mares turnouts does this - it is a smidge on the small side so I think this is why. Her rambo sweetitch hoody also does it a little, but I think that is because the chest doesn't fit her shape brilliantly. Her cheapy shires and derby house never do it - I'm giving up on buying posh rugs for her!
 
not too hot, iv sat and watched-rug creeps forward on it own!

irritatingly this IS a DH rug, which i bought because his other one (MW)fits so well, but this HW seems to sit differently.rar.

the shetlands DH rug doesnt move an inch either!
 
Perhaps it's just the combination of the heavier weight of the rug and gravity when his head is down, especially if he's narrow at the front?

My mare's old Rambo HW combo does this, also slips to to the left, annoyingly. Need to get round to ebay-ing it.

Cheapo Shires lightweight never budges :rolleyes:

No helpful suggestions though, sorry :o
 
Are you using a fillet string on it's own or leg straps? If you're just using the fillet string put the leg straps back on and see if that helps
 
I've already asked this question on here as mine does the same. I've actually worked out that its only the rugs with the nylon linings that slip. The rugs with the cotton linings stay put. Will try and only purchase those in future as its awful when its pouring down with rain and you see your horse with its backside showing and a huge gaping bit at the front!

That's a v good point!

The Rambo that I find slips forward has the nice shiny lining, to help keep coat nice. The cheapo shires that doesn't is cotton lined.

May well explain it...:)
 
Are the neck tight? With some of my weatherbeetas. Especially the combo stable liner, it tighten around the neck wen the horse puts his head down to graze which can pull it forward over the back if that makes sense? We do the neck up on the combo quite loose wen she is stood with head up but as soon as she pits her neck to the floor it really tightens. Hers doesn't pull forward so much though as in the stable she has another rug on top but its just so restricting underneath the neck :(
