Hi guys, I have a new pony and I keep all my rugs on a rug rack in my stable, never been an issue before! Said new horse likes to throw them on the floor 🤣 is there anyway I can prevent this? I’m going to try a stable toy but wasn’t sure if anyone else has successfully stopped their horse doing this

Unfortunately, horses that enjoy pulling rugs around will usually continue doing this. My gelding will pull off any detachable neck while on the other horse, he'll pull off the whole rug if the straps aren't tight and god forbid I leave a rug within reach in stable, over door, etc ... Then he likes to carry them around, dunk them into water buckets and at some point shit on it then work it into the straw to make shitty bedding to curl up on.

Depends how bad he is. Mine got bored when I fastened the straps and he couldn’t pull them off. Hasn’t done it since (18 years!). Others might keep pulling and rip them.

I think you’ll just need to move your rug storage. My mare is fine with me hanging a couple of rugs in her stable; I would never store rugs with my gelding, he’d trash them. I don’t imagine there is anything I could do to put him off.

Mine destroys anything within reach, so I make sure nothing I don't want destroying is within reach, you likely need to do the same.
He's still not been forgiven for the day he somehow reached over a fence, stole the YOs duvet off her washing line and ran off with it , leaving it in the mud with half the stuffing pulled out. He is also a pain for swinging on tail flaps of other horse's rugs and costing me a fortune getting them mended.

diva can’t have anything in reach of her stable, even when i think ive made sure things are far enough away she sometimes finds a way to drag them in her stable.

she’s not interested in stable toys! she only likes anything she’s not supposed to have - the exact same stable toys become fun if they’re not in the stable anymore🙈

I had one like this and he never really improved 😂. Was quite embarrassing having to tell the person in the next stable that she may need to rethink her rug tack location as my pony was trying to drag her horses rugs through the bars so he could play with them since I wouldn’t leave his own in reach!

lol I have rug racks in my stables in fact in every stable.

Sorry I had this with my late boy. The only cure I found was drill a hole in the top of the rug rack and put 2 thin bolts through to attach. He never got them off after that. I put these on the top horizontally https://www.diy.com/departments/hea...load-per-hook-pack-of-5-/5000359700021_BQ.prd. So the holes were a long the top of the rack . Like this

Thanks, I was trying to see if there was a way to get her to leave them because I wasn’t sure where else I could keep them as not much storage but think I’ve found a solution and will move the bar outside her stable to hang them on there hopefully out of reach 🤣

My youngest cob will pull anything within reach into his stable and stomp on it!

When the Appy was younger a new livery threw 2 v expensive rugs over the adjoining breeze block wall. They were both squished into the Appy's poo pile the next day. I wasn't popular.
