I have been working my horse with a rope and rope halter doing ground work and have just started circle work. My problem is she pulls on the rope, looks more to the outside and when I ask her to go up a gear she sometimes (not always) bucks, leaps up and heads off up the school. I usually can hang on and bring her back but today I had to let go twice as she is a strong horse. Should I try an alternative to the rope halter? On a small circle she is ok and her groundwork is improving.

12ft line or the 22ft?
I would likely stay in walk and correct the looking out at that pace initially. Going up to trot when they are unbalanced probably means they can't do a circle because there is no bend and the bend is to the outside. They get straight and can leave, which they do.
Wear gloves if you aren't already.
