horse putting his tongue over the bit....please help!

Tonight I noticed my horse had put his tongue over his bit. I checked and it was high enough on his bridle, I couldn't put it up anymore without it being too high. It is a snaffle with a lozenge.

I hate using flash straps. Any ideas how to sort this without using a flash?

Don't mean to be contentious (please don't all shout at me), but I think for them to be of any use in stopping them opening their mouth they have to be done up quite tight - and I think that's a bit cruel. *ducks*

If youv never had this problem befor it might just be a 1 off but if it happends again maybe try a smaller size bit as it sounds like its due to the middle bit of the mouth peice hanging too low in your horses mouth. Hope that helps and good luck with sorting it.
