Bit of an odd one. Have a lovely cob on loan. She’s been a bit wierd for a while when I put my right leg on and will snap her head round at it or you can feel her skin twitch. It’s where my heel touches her. She was very sensitive if you touched it with your hand for a week or two but now seems much better. There is a tiny scab there but not sure if that’s from where the vet poked it with a needle to see if anything was in there). She’s had both vet and physio to look at it who couldn’t find anything. She does have one thick black hair there which is different to the other hair growing there (she’s clipped so you can see it).
I don’t know if it’s my boots (does it in both pairs of mine).

She had 10 days off, was fine on first ride then back to doing it again.

Have got a different saddle coming to see if that makes any difference. Different girths and with or without girth sleeves makes no difference. Vet says def not ulcer behaviour which I wondered because it’s one very small spot.

I wasn’t sure whether it’s her saddle affecting her elsewhere causing it but she reacts with or without a saddle on.
I did wonder whether I tuck some sheepskin in the girth to cover that area to give some protection from my foot and see whether that does anything and to try in my wellies which have no seam.

its just very odd and I’m at a loss to know what it is. I’ve changed stirrups as well and her rug in case that was rubbing giving her sore skin. The way she reacts you’d think she has a thorn or something in there but vet had a good poke and swears there isn’t anything in there and if there was, it would have popped out with a bit of pus by now.

you can rub it quite hard and she’s fine but if you poke it hard, she doesn’t like it. Very confused!!

That can be a symptom of ulcers.
.
Vet didn’t seem to think it was in the right place and I’ve had two with ulcers in the past and they both reacted very differently so it seems odd. It’s literally a fingerprint size place she reacts. Quite happy to treat her for ulcers if needed though!!

My mare used to struggle with hind gut acidosis (gives rise to ulcers, but she was never internally examined from the rear end). She was a classic 'reactive to right leg' mare. I generally found out by receiving a flying lesson after mounting!

Mr Red once had an ingrown hair on his chin. It was hardly noticeable to see but very painful. It only came to a head (pardon the literal and pun) when it got infected. When I got tweezers on it, it was like a tree trunk below the surface and very deep.

Also, I have had a horse hair embed itself in my skin. Once on my hand, once my arm, once by boob, once my eye surround. With most of them, you couldn't really see it but it was very painful.

I would firstly clip then shave with a razor the area to have a better look. I would get a torch and glasses out. I may consider bandaging a poultice on too.

one of mine does this if saddle fit not spot on, regardless of where/which bit of saddle etc he always curls his left ear down and shivers away from left leg.
