I've always known Ty is quite highly strung but over the last few weeks he's 'switched' for no apparent reason.
I'm putting it down to him having alot of upheaval and feeling insecure until he settles down again at home, but be interested if anyone elses horses have had a problem like this.
He had a bad experience with the farrier about 6 weeks ago. I wasn't there but against my advice he was taken out of the stable and hot shod. This resulted in him rearing up and over backwards. My fault for not being there so won't be making that mistake again. My old farrier was fantastic and got him from being a complete idiot being shod to being a lamb!
So after his bad week long loan experience, where my gut instinct is that the girl was scared of him and faffed which mad him feel nervous, we have had a few hairy incidents.
He had to be shod the other day so sedated him and had to shoe him in the field - took a while but got there in the end. From sept he'll have a stable so I thought that would be that.
Today a sharer came to meet him and all was going well until I walked to the back of him to put hoof boots on and he just rerupted - which resulted in him rearing over backwards again.
My only thought is that because he didn't know the other girl, and he was starting to nod off, that I shocked him when he caught me around the back and thought it was farrier time again.
I'm just a bit worried about him - I'm trying to be patient and understanding but he nearly jumped on me when he reared - you could tell he was terrified of something.
The other thing I've noticed is that instead of getting wound up and then rearing is that he's becoming more 'explosive' and starting to wind himself up before anything happens to him.
Sharer had a lovely hack on him and wasn't put off at all - she also behaved very confidently around him so hopefully it will work out.
Just don't want him to hurt himself and hope it's just a case of him having to settle down.
