My horse is fed haylage on an ad lib kind of basis - he does not get much in the summer, and has more in the winter (to simplify things).

He has not had haylage for a couple of months or so because the grass has been so rich and I haven't felt the need. During the summer every known and then he would have unbranded cheaper haylage as part of his diet (not necessarily by my choice).

Thinking that the stuff I previously fed him (HorseHage Ryegrass) might not be the most suitable haylage for him, I decided to feed him HorseHage Timothy instead - he is 22 and in light work.

He is not a fussy eater in any sense. Long story short, despite my efforts in introducing the haylage gradually and so on, he will not eat it. It is definitely not because he isn't hungry - if anything he's more hungry than usual.

Any suggestions? Should I go back to the previous haylage he was fed last year? Or should I try the cheaper unbranded stuff he ate every known and then in the summer and seemed to be fine on? Or should I try a new flavour and risk wastage again? He cannot have hay due to allergies.

And finally what can I do with this basically untouched £9 bag of haylage? No one at my current place feeds their horse haylage.

Any help is appreciated :)

Well, those small bags don't last very long once they are opened, so there relly isn't much you can do with your opened bag, unfortunately. I would go back to the haylage that you fed before and that he liked.

At least it wasn't a big bale! I would just go back to what works and what he likes :)

As for the opened one - is there a local FB page you could pop it up on? You never know, someone might take it off your hands.
