Hello so Im 17 almost 18 and have quite a bit of horse experience under my belt, have a Level 1 BHS care qualification and I’d love to start a horse related business. Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do to earn a little extra cash. I was thinking about looking after horses while their owners are away but I’d like to know if there’s any more I could do?

Plus I’d love to know how to advertise it if anyone here knows how? Thank you

Are you good at show prep, ie plaiting, trimming, quarter markers etc. I see people advertising that service on FB before shows, seems to be a demand. Also day groom at shows.

Freelance groom jobs - covering for holidays, etc. Pay is from £12.00 to £20 per hour.

Or doing jobs on a livery yard for clients, fetching in, feeding, rug changes, poo picking, mucking out, feeding.

Clipping, plaiting, show preparation.

In my area there's plenty of work for freelance grooms, do you drive and have a car? There's plenty of fb pages specifically for freelance grooms, regional equestrian pages to post on and most freelancers seem to have their own business page on fb which is pretty simple and free to set up. If you get insurance via British Grooms Association you can advertise there as well.

I personally wouldn't leave a 17 yo in charge while I was away on holiday, but most of the work round here is at yards and for people who are short of time due to work rather than they are away.

I want someone to come into my tack room and assess what I need to keep and what needs to be given away/sold. Like a decluttering consultant. I want a lean tack room, stocked with only quality product - organised and tidied.

I had someone come into and do my house prior to renovating and it was magic but I can’t find someone with those same skills who has horse/product knowledge.

I would also be prepared to give this person everything that was saleable, get them to sell it on my behalf and take a 25% commission.

I would offer you to make saddle tack cleaning, care and detailing. As for me it brings pleasure and you can earn approximately £20 for each saddle detailing
