Took my boy out today to my favourite hacking area.. He fell over, well sat on his backside a few years back, never done it again. He travelled quietly today but when we arrived he was resting a hind leg & leaning his hip against the wall, surely he can't be standing on 3 legs while were travelling?.
 
I don't quite understand what his sitting down a few years back, and him resting in the trailer have in common?

He's very chilled about travelling, practically loads himself. I never even used to think about travelling him, but since he ended up on his backside it worries me. I now notice every little sound of the trailer. And surely he needs all four legs to balance himself? Just when I saw him today I thought if that's how your travelling maybe you've got more chance if falling over?
 
By the time you have stopped the car, gone around & opened the trailer he has probably taken the respite from movement to relax. I think that's very possible, chilled out, good sign.:)
 
I'm pretty sure my mare does that - have jumped in at side of road while engine still running, and she's stood there resting a hind leg, drooling, with her eyes closed... very occasionally we hear a clang at a roundabout - normally on the way home from an outing - I swear she falls asleep and tips sideways on the way round! Never a mark on her (touch wood) and we do drive as if there is a sleeping horse in the back... I think she just finds it soporific! Never had another quite so laid back though.
 
You lucky, lucky lot. When mine travels alone, she rocks the lorry side to side and bunny hops for the journey duration!!
