Horse is returning to work after a period of mild lameness (only in trot on a cirlce, vet thought soft tissue damage in coffin joint). He's been rested, reshod and worked in walk for a month and he's been sound for 3-4 weeks now so we're allowed to move onto trot work. However, I'm paranoid he's going to go lame again! I'm actually scared to trot or do too much with him, every little stumble or misplacement and I think there's something wrong! I almost expect to go up to him or bring him in from field and find him lame

Please someone tell me this is normal and how long is this worrying going to go on for??

Its very normal. I've been like it since his been back in work since July. I think I will always worry but it does get easier, Mine got loose and galloped flat out back to the yard and spun, got lead rope caugh between his shoe and hoof we had 2 cut out. I was crying as I thought nxt day I was guna have a ruined horse but he was fine so realise I can push him a bit harder we've got out canter scan in 2week, Both really missing our canter

My horse had a leg problem a couple of years ago and I was exactly like you when he came back into work. I dreaded asking him to trot just in case, and when we were lunging I would obsessively watch his legs until I nearly fell over.
Gradually I became less paranoid - most of the time at least. My instructor was having a good look at him at our last lesson and I immediately assumed she was going to say he didn't look right. Actually she was thinking how well he looked.

Hope you don't have any further problems. Once you're confident that the problem has been solved I'm sure you'll relax.

Its normal.

My horse split his tendon 3 years ago and I constantly check his legs. I was constantly asking friends to see if he was lame.

It will get better with time, its natural to be like this.

I hope your horse continues to improve.

Yep - thats what I was like. Had completely written horse off after rehab from op...thought she felt like a wonky Sainsburys trolley. Got vets out numerous times and finally accepted what they were saying - she was fine!!!

Yep, I'm paranoid too!
Mine has just been starting to come back into work again after 4 months off for mild lameness, we think its a soft tissue issue again!!

I've been walking with a little bit of trot for a week now and she seems ok, but I'm v. scared I'll break her and have no horse again.
Just take it steady and give it time

If its not normal then i'm not normal either!! My boy had nearly 4 months off due to lammi and copd, i'm paranoid about even bringing him out of his stable in case he's lame never mind working him. I'm absolutely quaking in my boots hacking him out in case he trips etc. I'm being too soft as i know he's ready for doing more but i worry too much. My lad is 22 and acts like a 3 year old half the time. I think it does get easier with time!
