No bridleways at all, few footpaths, huge lorries on small roads, very few farmers let you on their land...... there's good and bad in all places.
Sounds just like Devon. Actually, we have hundreds of miles of open access bog and mountain tracks here. We can ride on the beaches during permitted times. Most of even the small boreens are wide enough for a tractor and a car to comfortably pass and as 65% of Ireland is still actively farmed as opposed to set aside I wouldn’t expect to ride on farmers’ land.

not all of Devon is bad. I can ride all day just crossing a couple of roads. I often choose to ride on quiet roads to break things up.
Please don't! 😂😂😂
no way. Far too good here plus I suspect Ireland is wetter. :D

Another rider dies on the roads, this times after an incident with a motorbike on a blind bend. The horse and the motorbike rider were slightly injured. No arrests have been reported.

I'm very sorry to read on another thread that this rider was well known to some HHOers. Her name has been released now.

RIP Jayne.
Yes, she looked after my two when we were in that neck of the woods. A truly lovely lady, very sad news ☹️

I think there needs to be a national campaign reminding people of the dangers of driving too fast around blind bends.

I hacked out the other day and on every single bend I had cars whizzing round the bend behind me. Not a single car slowed down to take the bend.
I had a near miss yesterday and as I ride and lead, I take up more space. I was then informed by one of the liveries that it does happen around there. As it’s my only pleasure in life, I’m rethinking the yard, hence the post about a track livery, which goes straight onto bridleways. Much safer.
