Well apart from improving my riding, which is a constant goal, i'm just in the process of getting my music for Novice DTM and I want to go out and do it in reasonable style. I will probably do some UA if I can find a venue or online and see how I go. I'd love to do my RC area qualifier next year. My big goal is to put some BD points on my horse at Novice level by the end of the year. I'm playing around with Quest ATM and having mixed scores and experiences so not quite ready to go out and do a proper affiliated test. I've decided the best way to improve my scores are to conquer the warm up, which is where I can go to pieces!
Over the summer my goal is to work on jumping confidently in and out of water. My boy is a great jumper and not scared of water at all but he is still young and the combination of water and jumping blows his mind 😂
I am and will always be striving to ride better with as light an aid as possible, in as balanced a frame as possible, a lifetime goal I will never fully achieve but will always work towards.
Keeping my horse sound and healthy and myself (proving difficult) is another one
Having fun with my horse - is achieved most of the time but will always be a goal too
Long term goals (3 + years) - being competitive at advanced medium dressage and 1.10 SJ (anything additional is a huge bonus!)
Medium term goals - improving lateral work and medium trot to 'show standard'; getting more fluent rhythm in SJ
Short term goals - get jumping again after a recent fall (hopefully only a few weeks away now!)
yup have to agree with keeping the horses sound and happy, Wheels
Other goals are a bit meaningless without that bit.
Big goal has to be getting to ride a GP test on a horse I have trained myself... I don't know if the current contender will do it, I certainly hope so with a lot of hard work, luck and a fair wind... but anyway in the meantime we are having lots of fun learning how to train the movements.
Otherwise, I tend not to make too many fixed goals, past experience has shown that can lead to disappointment. But I have a vague hope that the new project might be able to go out and about a bit towards the end of the year and that he will enjoy his new career.
Get 60%+ in an Intro test. Ideally at a local venue but I'll accept online.
Canter in the school.
Take her out to the gallops at Kelsall and see what she can do.
Tiny goals, but saddle fitter and physio have detected what's probably an old injury that's causing a lot of one-sidedness, so we've got a long slog of rehab ahead of us.
My goals. Well the main one is - as others have said - to just keep improving my riding. And key focus/priority is to develop an independent seat and better hands. Not sure if that is a goal though as how do you know when you reach it? It's an on-going wish not a concrete goal.
The measurable, achievable goals for this season are:
Finish an ODE on my dressage score.
Improve the dressage scores.
If both can happen at the same event, well that would obviously be even better!
To improve my riding and build up my relationship with my horses. They have really come on the 10 months since I had them and see changes all the time in them and myself and love it. By the end of the year I'd like to have taken them on a couple of fun rides and bring them on in the school more. Little goals for me to compared others but ones that mean a lot.
Long term goals: stagger round a BE80 (or a decent unaff course), hopefully with the orange one - generally get her doing more fun stuff
Keep both ponies and Captain Carrot sound, happy, in work and doing fun jobs.
Short term goals:
find a nice mini xc with good ground for Daemon to give a lead to my friend's horse this season
get the little orange mare out doing some local SJ happily and confidently
find something fun for Fergs to play at - possibly a little sidesaddle or similar.
I also have horseback archery goals which are vague and amorphous as I don't really know what I'm doing or planning to achieve. Realistically, in the short term I just want to get more reliable, less erratic in my ability to nock at speed etc - and lose fewer arrows to the long grass around the targets... It's getting bloody annoying hunting for them 😂
Long term goals largely include not accidentally shooting anyone, or indeed, intentionally shoot anyone
Mid term- get to Pau single horse world championship 2020. This season- top 6 Brit at national championships advanced class and survive our first abroad senior international and first 3*. Winter- improve his feet and bum.
I’m much clearer than I am for my career or life goals!
Aside from the typical improve my riding, keep horse happy and healthy etc mine are as follows:
In 1 year:
Improve pony’s flatwork
Enter a prelim and get 60%+
Enter first show jumping competition and get a clear round
Improve my confidence out hacking
In 5 years:
Enter a novice dressage
Enter 70cm unaffiliated event
Enter trailblazers 85cm
In 10 years:
Compete at BE90
Be confidently jumping 1m+
Obviously my 5 year and 10 year goals are subject to change. I want to do a bit of everything with pony and don’t want to rush him at all.
