Hi,

I am wanting to go on a riding holiday. I don't want to travel to America as i can go for a week max. I would like mixture if schooling and hacks. Any recommendations ?

thanks

I highly recommend Monte da Ribeira riding centre in the Algarve, Portugal. It's run by my old boss and I can't speak highly enough of her, she is a lovely lovely woman and a fantastic instructor and will go out of her way to make your holiday memorable. She has a variety of horses and ponies including jumpers, dressage horses and schoolmasters, a couple of the horses can be ridden Portuguese style and know fancy dressage stuff like Spanish walk, they are all good to hack out as well. The hacking is up in the hills, plenty of opportunity for long canters and uphill gallops and the views are fantastic. You can be as hands on with the horses as you like, if you want to groom etc you can do or she will have it tacked up and waiting if you prefer to just ride. Oh and it can be residential or non-residential, and she can organise non-horsey activities / sightseeing as well if you want some "tourist time". Basically you tell her what activities you'd like to do and she'll draw up a personalised itinerary, no two days will be the same.

Website is here - http://www.cavalgarve.com/
You can find Monte da Ribeira on Facebook as well.

I would recommend La Fiaba in Tuscany, Italy . http://la-fiaba.com/

It is predominantly hacking however when the hacking looks like this (my own photos)... it is worth it!

She also has a variety of nicely schooled horses and when I had lessons (both schooling and jumping) I found her incredibly encouraging and supportive, as well as being able to understand me as a rider and teach me accordingly.

The hotel she is affiliated with is gorgeous and the swimming pool is to die for! It is quiet and overlooks the rolling tuscan hills.

It is about and hour from Florence and Siena, and if you opted for the half day rides (about 3 hours or so) then you would have time to go touristing in the afternoons :) The flight I took to Pisa airport takes about 2.5 hours from Leeds Bradford airport and from Pisa you can be at the hotel within an hour, so easy to get to.

I think the reviews for La Fiaba speak for themselves as well - there is a link to them on the website :)

Thank you both, i will research and send messages. I am excited already !

Im in Spain and have a few friends that do riding holidays, not 100% what they offer, so you would need to check the websites, I asked on my Horse Owners in Spain page on FB .... is this is the response I got...

www.sierrapelada.com. Also amazing reviews on trip advisor, team building events, pony club camp and language course (tefl cert) horsey hen parties , tapas rides camping rides/holidays or five star accom !!

Holidays in Alora, stunning locaiton and lovely lovely people, great for kids and adults. http://centroecuestrelaluz.com/

Holidays at Fantasia on the costa de la luz. Beach and forest riding. Our website is www.fantasiaadventureholidays.com

don't think we will be of interest to them as I have no real interest in schooling, our hacking is too amazing to want to be stuck in a school, and our horses much prefer happy hacking, but here is our website anyway http://www.cortijoloslobos.com/

http://en.lorufete.com/caballos/

We are very much tailor-made for the individual. We only take proficient riders on hacks but offer correct schooling. We can also cater for people who want to bring their own horses to transition to bitless riding (as well as the option of barefoot of course!) and/or learn about endurance riding, as we offer an Endurance Camp. Web site needs updating! http://www.espiritu-del-viento.com http://rural-rental-casares.webs.com

Try In The Saddle and discuss your requirements. They do all the organising for you! And all their riding centres have been used and approved by their staff so they can tell you exactly what it is like.
