Hi,

A friend and I went to Cumbrian Heavy Horse for a full day beach ride and absolutely loved it. We were riding for about 6 hours and had some amazing canters and gallops. We're now looking for something similar, but over a few days and a reasonable price. We'd prefer self guided, or a faster paced trekking centre, where we can "ride" the horses, rather than simply being passengers. Budget suggests we'd probably be better off staying in the UK but would travel abroad if we could :)

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Freerein sounds perfect for you

I'd definitely recommend Freerein having been many times now. I think they're the only place to offer self guided treks and these are very well organised. They have a good choice of horses from steady plodders for beginners to forward going ones. It isn't a typical trekking centre where it's nose to tail with the horse in front. If you want to blow the cobwebs away, then make sure you pick a route that goes up Hergest ridge. There is a fantastic old racecourse at the top!
