Horse riding in Cambridge?

Spent the day in Cambridge and loved it :) Going back in a few weeks for a weekend and I was wondering if there was anywhere in the town to ride? I know there is a polo club that do lessons (Haggis Park) - anywhere else that is close and that do hacking? Will be on bike/foot so the closer to the university, the better.

If you are going to Cambridge rather than ARU they have a university riding club that you can find online (ARU may also have one but I haven't heard of it).

I've been told by several people that there is a good riding school at Yelling that does lessons and hacking, but it is tricky to get to unless you are part of the riding club (they have a car pool). There is also a riding school at Sawston, but I know nothing at all about it I'm afraid.

I suspect that Haggis Farm does not offer hacking as I live very close to it and it's on a very busy road.

If you might be interested in a horse share I know of a user on here with a lovely horse that she keeps very close to town - PM me if you're interested and I'll tell you who it is.

If anyone knows of anywhere else they can recommend I would also love to know!
 
theres south cambs equestrian centre who do hacking but i wouldnt recommend it never been made to feel so inadaequate in my life lol

i learnt at Sawston riding school and loved every minute of it horses and ponies there are fab and everyone is lovely, can highly recommend it :D :D

Haggis dont do hacking only polo now really

O and FWIW Cambridge is tiny so everything is within cycling distance. Sawston isn't actually that far out if you can cycle 40 mins. If you plan to be a Cambridge person you'll get used to biking that far really quickly!
 
Pixxie - I might also be tempted. I'm sharing a horse who is being brought back into work and would love to have a couple of 'tune up' flat and lunge lessons because I've only been riding sporadically for about a year, and she is a beautifully trained dressage horse who I want to be on form for when I start schooling properly. Do they cater for more experienced riders? Ie would they have a schoolmaster I could have a flatwork lesson on? Sorry for hijacking the thread!
 
yes they do steorra nothing amazing but good safe horses capable of most basic lateral work who know their job would highly recommend taking lessons there with an instructor called Karen fantastic instructor really knows her stuff

like i said nothing incredible apart from one who you may be put on after a few lessons if assessed to be of a high enough standard but definitely ask for karen if youre more experienced x

Cambridge is lovely, try to make it to the Botanic Gardens if you are coming for a visit, they are gorgeous in autumn.
