He does it every year when the weather gets hotter and just need ideas on how to stop him to protect his tail.
He is currently ruggless through night when stabled and is rugged throughout the day depending on weather
There are no known medical issues that could be causing it
Any ideas to help prevent this will be much appreciated

I use the barrier fly cream it's an insect repellent and stops the need to rub or I use wonder gel gold label make it, I have one that rubs his tail and one rubs his mane but if I apply this at least once a day it really works, a fly rug with a tail flap will also help stop the insects biting.

I've always used Kill Itch one week in the summer months to take away any itchiness. Works a treat.

I've always found that they itch much less after a good bath in a good horse shampoo, my favourite is gold label paragon. Sometimes the dirt/grease/hair just builds up and after a good clean they're much more comfortable!

I feed Brewers Yeast. Stop and mane and tail disappear. Restart and rubbing stops. Used it for years and never fails. Extra bonus it is cheap!
