My old horse has come back form a supposedly forever home but i already have another horse now.
I tried to reloan horse 1 but it didnt work out He's UBER sensitive and just wont settle elsewhere it seems!
Currently he's the best ive ever known him and is hacking quietly as and when i can but im struggleing with 2. (especially as neither are overly fond of hacking alone- they both will just not the most fun)
I dont want to let him go again, as in my previous thread its kind of like he's home and we are happy!
If i advertised for a part loan/share type agreement is this something people go for? bearing in mind i'm on a tiny private yard so no facilities (even electric) Obviously there would be no charge but i would ask a contribution towards shoes as this is one bill i cant afford and maybe a bag of feed now and again IF the sharer ups his work load so that extra feed is required. The rest i can just about scrape by and afford i think at least right now.
Does anyone else have a sharer? if so how did you find him or her and what sort of arrangement do you have

Hi there,

Yes I am sure you can find someone - I just have! Put an advert up on Preloved for someone to ride, contribution towards cost of shoes and now have brilliant sharer!

Works really well, I have loads of time to bring my boy back into work following 10 months off due to injury, my other horse is getting plenty of exericise and I have a great new riding buddy too!

Highly recommend you give it a go :)

Sadly Bournnmouth is a long old drive for a hack round the village ;-)
I advertised on Preloved but no takers yet. I posted a very frank honest advert of him as i remembered him last year at a different yard (a whole different horse!) on Equne adverts so i think people will probably look at anything i post on there and think im talking crap! I will definitely stick a few cards round locally though if its recommended! Anything to enable him to stay :-D

I'd try the local tack shops. I have had a few sharers, and they generally paid for shoes, and the occasionally bit of food. Its worked pretty well on the whole, although he is out on full loan again now. I've even had company for hacking!
Would imagine you won't be that short of takers!

I share I mare and it is the best decision I have ever made! Compared to some I pay very little and I know how incredibly lucky I am. I found liv (fatty black and white cob) on horsemart - I know her owner had quite a bit of interest so that might be a good idea? Sharing is fab and I have made some really great friends out of it.
Good luck!

Thankyou all! Lovely to hear stories of it working well. Would be so nice to have someone to hack out with and there's often a space to shows and funrides in our trailer so I'd love to see someone get him out and about :-D

I share one now. I am pretty sure the owner is happy with me and we go out on hacks together :-) This one I hack alone (was spooky at first but OKish now) and have had others before that I could only ride in the school, was a bit boring but I was desperate to have any horse time and was very skint!

I just pay a flat rate per week (£15) as it is easier that way. I am hoping to get my own horse in a few months and would definitely consider sharing, especially as I plan to have two eventually, it is so nice to have someone to hack out with and go to shows as none of my friends are horsey!

I found mine on equineadverts :-)

My horse and yard sounds similiar to yours although we do ride in our paddocks and have a few home made jumps. I put in an add for part loan asking £25 a wk. I have now got a lovely lady who just wants to hack out with me as and when and wants to do as many horsey chores as she can to help her shift a little weight...I wasn't even asking for chores to be done! :). So yes I'd say go for it as I've had a lot of interest. £25 is a small amount considering the entire expense of the horse, my loaner says it would cost her similar just for a hack at a riding school. So all parties happy :)

My friend does this with one of her horses. A lady comes up mwith her young daughter and she pays her £10 each time she comes ... she literally sticks her daughter on and leads him about. Horsey loves being fussed and my friends gets a few extra £ towards his keep. :D
