I have recently tried to find a horse share in the reigate/sutton area of surrey with very little success. I may be asking a lot, looking for a weight carrier, and not much financial contribution can be offered, but I thought in these cold winter months someone would have something. Is Horse sharing in decline or have i just been unlucky??

I used to live in wales, but had my own horse then.......... really cant seem to find anything at the mo............ fairly annoying!!!

have you tried looking in tack shops?

not to be personal but how much weight and how experienced are you? I'm not near you so I can't help but I would be cautious about replying to someone looking for a weight carrier in case it got embarrassing for both parties because the owner felt you were too heavy. It might be that people need a little more detail about you before they want to approach you

I have advertised stating that horse has to be able to carry 16.5 stone, (I am only 16st),

so not being shy about it at all, wouldnt ever put myself on something I didnt think would carry me!! I am really quite experienced having owned and competed dressage and eventing (since I was 10), in the past, and trained with Stephen Clarke for a year. I just havent done a great deal in the 5 years since my own horse past away. Have put all this in ads on line, and even refused offers from people with 13-14hh ponies, and arabs etc they are offering me, thinking I would be too heavy, and looked in all tack shops!! Still not coming up with a great deal.............. which is a real shame as I have lots of time and attention to give the right horse

I hope I didn't offend you with the previous post. having worked at several riding schools I know that alot of people lie about their weight and it can cause awkward situations.

Have you tried contacting local riding clubs or posted on this site http://www.horsetoloan.com/

good luck with your search

Yes have tried both my local riding club and that site you mentioned, thank you anyway.......... I guess its just wait and see time..... No offence taken at all!!!

Its just as difficult when you are looking for someone to share your horses with.... I have just had to end an agreement with someone who I thought was perfect and am unsure of whether to look again or not, I have 4 horses so really just want a sharer for some companionship/someone to ride out with etc...

Yes I can understand it is difficult after all Horses are our pride and joy and letting someone else look after them can be hard!!............ I know I appreciated my sharer when I was at uni, not for the finance side but for the time she gave me to do my uni work!

Keep looking and don't give up! I have been on both sides of the coin, i spent years sharing other people's horses and now i own and have someone sharing.
Its usually when you least expect it that you find a lovely horse! The horses i shared i heard about through word of mouth and when i wanted a sharer i advertised at a local tack shop in Kent so keep visiting regularly and you never know what you might find!

Hi there - am new to H&H forum so firstly hello!

Scarlett - saw that you are near to Guildford and possibly looking for a sharer, well I'm near Guildford and looking for a share. Let me know if you're interested and we can discuss off line.
