what is the cost (per horse) of shipping a horse from east germany to england. i know this is quite a strange question, but someone might know. we are thinking of moving to England and taking some of the horses (unfortunatly if we did this we would neex to sell some as depending on the cost we would only be able to take around six) also, does anyone have any good or bad experiences of certain shipping companies and who do they recomend.

as a rough guesstimate it would be about £600-£700 per horse. There are loads of international travel companies - John Parker, Pedersen, Eric Gilles, Equine Travel Agency to name a few. With 6 on board you might consider hiring an entire lorry of the smaller variety, it might work out cheaper.

Cost my friend 550 about 3 years ago but I'd pay a bit more cos the person they used ought to be shot cos of the condition the horse arrived in...

Really do your homework!

The amount you pay will be by mileage, so know where you want to go to

Don't use a transporter that cannot give you a ROUTE! You may find your horses going via Italy and Spain back to the UK without getting off the lorry!

With 6+ horses I would expect to have an individual load, but you do need to insist on this. You can also ask to come along!

Look on www.findhorsetransport.org

We use www.jmrt.co.uk Julie only does individual loads and we have travelled on board with no problems.

It cost £700 to ship a Highland pony from the Scottish Highlands to Germany. Eric Gillies took her down to Newmarket and John Parker took her on from there. Parkers also handled all the paperwork which was a big help.

The pony walked off the lorry completely relaxed and I have one very happy client!

(I wish I could say the same about Photobucket which won't allow me to post pictures -- again!)
