horse shopping anyone ? clydesdale x cob ?

hi all

i need to find a horse for a friend :)

she is a "fuller filly" ;) and needs a maxi cob type

ideally a clydesdale x cob this was perfect but is now sold and had done a little too much for a big baby

so it needs to be at least 16hh but no bigger than 17hh
must be a gelding
at least 3yr old but no older than 5

the hairier the better ,would love a colored but doesn't have to be

to mainly hack , have lessons on (flatwork) and some local showing & pleasure rides
doesn't need to be a dope on a rope ,can be forward going but reasonably safe as no doubt i will have to bring it on if young :rolleyes: so no complete nutters

less than 2k so something green not minded ,would even consider unbacked but would need to be able to back for the summer so no real babys

were in the north east / northumberland and don't mind traveling for the right one

impossible ? any ideas welcome ,would even consider dealers yards :)

yes i thought that too although it shouldn't be too much of a problem as my welshy can get sunburn and he gets his factor 50 on every morning in summer and it manages his so i don't mind slapping some on her at same time in summer :)

thats perfect didn't think of dragon driving ,it is miles away but its proving tricky to find anything at all so not impossible if there is nothing local thank you :)

sadly she won't pay that much :( but he does look worth it

difficult isn't it :(
she has a cly/cob and he is a treasure but has side bone now so can do very little hence wanting another one ,seems she was very lucky to find him
 
starbar i hadn't seen that i gave up last night :o ,looks good ill let her know ta :)

helenalbert that one was perfect but it sold straight away :( he had lovely markings too but you snooze you loose and we were not quick enough :(


thanks paintmeproud the shire looks lovely and i think she may be trying to contact them ,the black & white is just too far

i like the welsh x could take him home :o but not heavy enough for her

Good heavens, I know you said your friend is a 'fuller filly' but who on earth is too big for a 15.3 youngster who is bound to grow. A clydeX like that will carry the whole family!. I am no lightweight and quite tall but I could happily ride that horse. My own 'larger lady' is only 16hh but she is a good 7' round!
 
I have a Clydesdale welsh section D cross he's roan beauifully marked and 16.1 he would be spot on but of course he's not for sale ! But I rarely see anything like him they are quite rare
I loved the look of the one you said sold straight away also try the carriage link website as big cob do get put on there now and again.
Keep looking and never delay if you see one you like the look of.
 
Beware of getting a purebred heavy horse for a weight carrying riding horse. They weren't designed to carry the weight on their backs so you can end up with dreadful trouble. (I'm not having a dig, I'm sure you will evaluate it sensibly but there is an assumption that big horse = good carrier and it's just not the case).

a 15"3 4yr old who is bound to grow" it may not grow and she doesn't want anything smaller than 16hh so not worth the risk of it not growing ,if it had been 16hh with room to grow would have been great :)

Have you tried 'safecobs.com?' or co.uk. Cant quite remember! Google safe cobs. They have some beautiful ride and drive heavies.

I was looking for similar, a heavy cob type (although I was looking for under 16hh) and I found it near impossible. I didn't need it for weight carrying as such (I class myself as chunky,...but my 15hh welshie is perfect for me...so am not too large!) which made my search easier, I just like riding tanks over skinnies!!

I think as with anything when you are searching, time and a certain amount of compramise....3-5 is a tiny age gap. I wanted nothing over 8 years .... ended up with a 14 year old who I adore and is perfect for me. Eyes, ears and mind need to be open.
