can anyone help me to formulate a horsey shopping list? im thinking of buying a horse and wanted a little help formulating a list of what i need- and to get an idea of how much it'll set me back!!

hehe sure!

Its the hidden expenses that are the worst though - the vet bills, physio, dentist, paying someone to clip if you don't do your own and so on. There's always something.

depends if you are planning on being DIY or full livery?

I could list what I have for T but it might take all night so here is my short list!

basics -

Turnout rugs
Tack
Grooming kit
First Aid kit
sudocreme and hibiscrub!
Mucking out stuff if DIY
Headcollar and leadrope

i shall probably end up being DIY, money saving :D.
what weight rugs do you have? i have had advice from lots of people saying i need this and that, what basic weights do you recommend i need ?
cheers :)

Really depends on what type of horse you get, are they living out or in and also what work => what clip they will have.

If it helps I have a full TB with a full clip. She is out during the day and stabled overnight.

She has 5 turnout rugs -

1 x lightweight sheet with no filling
1 x LW rug - 100g
1 x MW rug - 200g
1 x HW rug - 360g
1 x super HW - 450g (honestly rarely used unless its snowing bad and freezing).

5 is only cos I 'want' to have them - I'd only really need 2 to rotate around.

Just wait and see - ask the person you are buying from too what they have used. Its trial and error. I clipped T again yesterday and put her heavier rug on overnight just in case - then she was too hot so I went back to the lighter one!
