How heartbreaking. As the past owner of a small maltese, this was always my biggest nightmare.
Now, as the owner of two German Shepherds, my OH and I go completely out of our way to ensure that our two (well socialised, well trained and friendly) dogs never end up in a mess. I'll never forget the day I was walking my shepherd, saw a familiy and their small fluffy playing ball in the middle of the park. I walked right out of the way, around the edge instead of following the path through the middle and into their ball game. I nearly died when, low and behold, a ball that had been lobbed landed a meter in front of my 45kg shepherd, with a small fluffy in hot pursuit. Luckily my my dog didn't blink! It never ceases to amaze me how people are so unawares! if ALL dogs were under control, we wouldn't see innocent dogs ending up as victims.

Poor little girl will have to live with that. why do people think it is OK to have dogs they have no control over. Dogs at equine events should be on a lead. :(

I have 2 tiny dogs (under 3kg) and 2 large dogs (around 30kg).
All are very well socialised and good in all situations.
But i rarely ever walk them in public anymore. I just can't be done with the hassle of the "oh he's friendly" sort. Spoilt far too many of my walks, and I am always aware that my small dogs are at risk due to their size, if another dog felt the inclination.
So they have the run of the fields when we go to the horses.

Such a terrible thing for anyone to witness. Poor dog and poor child.

My beagle was attacked recently and it was horrible to witness. Luckily no injuries and no lasting damage. I can't imagine how terrible it was for the little child.

I wish there were more serious consequences for those with out of control dogs.

My beagle was also attacked on a walk once. Thankfully Mine is a roughty toughty type who came away with only minor injuries (a hematoma on his ear and a couple of minor tooth wounds) and the other dog definitely came off worse.
I'm very grateful that It doesn't seem to have put him off at all and he is still a lovely friendly outgoing dog and is still happy with other dogs.

That poor girl. I just don’t understand how people think that it’s worth the risk walking potentially aggressive dogs in public without precautions. My little working cocker has been bitten out on walks four times, luckily only once badly enough. (All by fat unwalked labs - that’s a rant for another day!)He wasn’t a very confident chap before this but now literally freezes when he sees a larger dog and I physically shake. I actively avoid everyone when walking him now just because of the actions of a few irresponsible owners. I can only imagine how this poor girl must feel!

Me too. The socialisation I put into my Gsd x when she was young was daily, different environments, small children & dogs. It’s paid off.

That poor little girl and her poor pup. I just don't understand why anyone takes their dogs to such busy public places and don't keep them on leads! Especially with those dogs that naturally have a high prey drive! More bad press for the cane corso is just what the breed didn't need right now, there have been an increasing number of reports in America involving these dogs which only makes them more appealing to those idiots wanting a status symbol that they have absolutely no idea how to handle! I absolutely adore CC's having owned one myself and I'd hate to see them joining the banned breeds list because of irresponsible people
