Looking after someones 5 horses while they are away on holiday for two weeks...
how much should i charge them?? i have no idea really.
they have suggested £45 a day which i think is a bit much!
as i said 5 horses, out during day so i will need to turn all out in morning, muck out 5, 1 on straw 3 on easibed, 1 on shavings, easibed is deeplittered. (Will need to bring in bout 3, so ties my day up a bit!!) 1 needs to be ridden 6 days a week as well (schooling for 45min-1hr) and will also have to make feeds, pick feet, groom, do haynets (electric water)
what would you guys charge/pay for this service?
thanks

If they are happy to pay then then I would take that TBH. You are giving them peace of mind whilst they are away

£45 sounds about right to me- theyre all basically with you on full livery plus you have to exercise one. If they had to send them away to livery it would be at least £80/horsex4 and £100+ for the one in exercise which works out at about £60/day.

Seems a bit cheap to me to be perfectly honest. I would have thought a more realistic price would be somewhere between £60 and £70 per day but I guess it depends on whereabouts in the country you are and how good a rider you are.

the horses are in sussex, literally 4mins drive from my house. I usually charge £10 an hour for riding for friends! mare will be getting schooled better than at present! im not a completly amazing rider, but riding my horse at elementary at the moment, breaking in two of the youngsters at the yard they are at to!

Sounds about right to me.

Ah okay, well in that case £45 may be the right sort of price after all - low fuel costs to get there and low charge to ride the horse. I worked it out at around £30 per hour (that was my charge back in the UK) for riding so that's where I went a bit amiss. LOL!!

I think they are really paying for the 'trust' factor as they know you and know you will take good care of their horses. They could probably get someone in for less, but its risky for them as the person would probably not be very experienced. Also they could pay a lot more and have someone with amazing riding skills - but at the end of the day they'd be paying them god knows how much per hour to muck out! I think you've got a reasonable deal there, depending on how quickly you can get the stables done!

You may consider that they are wanting to pay you too much but to be honest it would cost them considerably more if they had to put them on full livery somewhere for the fortnight. The price would go up for considerably for schooling the horse for 1 hr a day

They obviously trust you to look after their animals & if you are happy with the money offered then I'd accept the payment & look after the horses. You never know, when they get back you may even get a bonus stick of rock!
