Horse slaughter *DELETED* *DELETED*

So what would you suggest happens to racehorses who are unable to be rehomed, if you don't want them to go to slaughter? Do you really believe that every single one will be bought by someone lovely to retrain them and they can live out their lives living happily in a field, like Black Beauty?

If you want to help slaughter horses, support WHWs campaign to stop them being transported long-distance to slaughter. That's where the real suffering lies.

Its a great cause and everything and I do look at their website and feel horrible for the horses

Some horses wont be vetted and bring diseases into the country and theres loads of neglected and horses needing a good home here

To be honest, a 2 day long journey in cramped horsebox just to get to you will be stressing enough and then if you find it has mental/physical problems.

I'm sure there are loads of horses that go to happy homes and live a lovely life but theres some that dont and just get passed around

TBs are not everyone's ride, particularly those who are straight off the track. Slaughter is the lesser of two evil's when you consider that most of these horses would end up with novices who don't know what they're doing. I would rather see a horse go to the meat man, where at least its future is guaranteed, than see it end up in the hands of someone who has no idea how to manage it and can't look after it. Or worse still, it gets labelled as difficult/dangerous and is passed around from home to home.

Life is not like the films and no one "rescues" all of the ex racehorses. If they're lucky they end up with someone who knows what they're doing but many aren't. I used to be at livery with a woman who bought an exracer, straight off the track, and it was 6 months before she could even hack it out sensibly without it thinking it could take off wherever it wanted to, and this is a woman who knows what she's doing.

As the other poster below says, if you want to get involved in a cause then donate to WHW because they are campaigning to stop live horse transport to slaughter.

Some places eat dogs, its their culture, Some places eat horses, its the same as pigs IMHO.

I agree that it sould be controlled it a better way with more legistation regarding transprtation and the slaughter houses and in a more humane way but it happens.

That sounds heartless, sorry

I have no problem with horses being sold to meat. I do have a problem with horses being transported thousands of miles in appauling conditions to be slaughtered.
My mare is an ex racer, I bought her as a 4 year old off the track, I was 15 and a half when we bought her. Nearly 3 years on she is still quirky and I would rather her go for meat then I sell her on and she is passed from pillar to post.

IMO whether you eat horse, cow, dog, kitten, lamb or chicken. It is no different. It shouldn't be a case of one is cute or one is nice so i don't want to eat it. IMO all life is valuable and i won't eat anything that has had a face. But if you do it shouldn't matter what it is. My issue is with how the animal is treated prior and during the slaughter process. So when cats and dogs are beaten for hours to produce adrenelin coz it apparently makes it taste better, then skinned alive thats when i get major angry. Or if the horses are treated badly and have to travel thousands of miles in hell conditions then that is not on. But horse is meat and therefore someone will eat it unfortunately.
