Horse slightly lame after physio

I bought a horse 3 months ago now and he has always struggled to strike off on the right leg in canter on the right rein, we have been working on it and he has improved a lot but I got the physio out today to check all was okay with him and there was no major issues apart from a bit tightness over his glutes, but now he’s very slightly lame behind when trotting, there is no swelling, heat or anything in his hooves and legs. She advised me to get the vet which I will be calling tomorrow afternoon after work but just wanted to see if anyone has experienced this before?

After a session with Rob Jackson the horseback vet my mare came up lame. She was actually lame before he saw her but was twisting to compensate so just felt a bit "off". He straightened her and within 24 hours it was obvious her left hind hurt. Likely suspensory tweak although she's a walking vet bill.....

I know my physio has said she can loosen off a right patch only to find that was muscle tension from dealing with soreness elsewhere in the body. Hopefully your vet will quickly find you an answer.

There was nothing wrong with him to get a vet in the first place otherwise I would have. Yes he couldn’t strike off on the coreect leg in canter on one rein, but after warming up he was fine and he’s unbalanced so I put it down to that.

This can happen the muscular tightness has developed and hides the lameness calling the vet is sensible

Thank you very much

Thank you so much. I’ll see what the vet says tomorrow

Him warming up out of something would make me think he's a bit sore in hock/stifle of the opposite side (ie, if the right rein is a struggle, it'll be the left hind). Possibly a bit of arthritis? But I would point the vet there.

Muscular stiffness can mask lameness, so it may be having released his muscles, the lameness can now be seen. My horses have always been much better after a physio/osteo treatment, never worse. Hopefully the vet will have an idea on cause.

I'd agree with this. My 6yo being diagnosed with a bone chip in his hock recently, he looked much better cantering on the left rein (issue is with off-side hock) once the suspect hock had been blocked out.
