As title really.... for the last month or so, Dante has smelled remarkably dog-ish.
He's quite a greasy creature anyway (more so than most horses I know) but seems less so since I changed his feed. The dog smell came just before the feed change however. Even his leadrope where he's chewed it smells like dog! :o

I have to say, I'm really not into the dog smell and it can't be *right* but there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with him? He's his normal self in every sense to be honest.

Any ideas? Except smother him in something that smells better!? :p I do wonder if being out of work is causing it somehow although I can't think why (he's been off for about the same length of time as the smell has been around I think) as he's being groomed every day still....

Baffled!!

Have his teeth/gums checked for infection. Odd smells may indicate an infection somewhere or something odd like maggots in his sheath or feet (don't wish to sound melodramatic but these things happen)
I would get a vet to check him out. Is he an old horse ?

He's 7. Had the dentist out 4 months ago, teeth were perfect then, due in Nov again. Vet saw him last in July/August, feet are great. Very baffled but will have him checked over anyway, he should be due a vaccination soon anyway I think.
