I was horrifed to hear that my lover-ly little man apparently smells of pigs! This is probably because the yard he was on until recently was also a pig farm (luckily my horse loves pigs!)

Its a bit too cold to be showering (he is currently heavily feathered and hairy beasty) and the hot water shower does not work at the new place. Problem is his next door stable neighbour is really scared of pigs and this could explain why she is acting up since we moved there

Any suggestions?!?!

p.s he is getting a trace clip and feather removal (for leg health not preference!) will this help at all

Spray him with mane and tail conditioner or coat conditioner like a deodorant.

Alternatively do what I do and boil lots of kettles.

Please can you wrap him up and post him to me!

We have free ranging boars all over the place and my lad is terrified of them and I think a horse who smelt like a pig might help him. Either that or it would fry his brain completely!!

I use something called winter leg scrub on my horses feathers (from Equimins) it has silver in so great for clearing up any bacterial infections/scabs. You just mix a tiny bit with warm water and wash legs with it, and leave it on. It smells AMAZING-might be worth a try? I do my horses feathers once a week and fingers crossed have not had to clip them

If you can find the Oz Oil no rinse winter wash stuff use it. It is non-rinse and you could rub it in to him with some warm water (as OP says from a few kettles) and then chuck a cooler on. It smells lovely and will hopefully mask the smell a little. getting rid of the smell of pigs is very difficult indeed on a human never mind a horse.

I use to breed oxford sandy and blacks rare breed and I'm sorry but none of my pigs smelt, but I use to keep them outdoors during the day bring them in at night during the winter. Their were stabled next to my horses. And my old thoroughbred adorded them use to have the piglets hanging off his tail. Pig don't smell unless they are not mucked out daily just like horses.
