my big chap has started to sound like he has a cold... he has some white discharge from both nostrils, its not thick or anything and there isnt a lot.
however, he sounds like he has a bit of a cold- he is sort of snuffly if that makes sense?
ive never had any of my horses have anything respiratary before... do they have 'colds'??
or should i call the vet??
he lives out so its not due to dust, he gets a haylage net when he comes in to be worked but is out other than that.

Short answer, yes. If you have concerns at all. Horse's respiratory systems are very delicate and you don't want to mess around with things. Have you taken his temp? Does he have any other symptoms? It's possibly an allergy but again, I'd want to know.

Have a look at Tr0uble's thread . . .

As above, please see my threads from today and yesterday...my boy has almost no symptoms but is currently in the vets for at least a week with pneumonia.

Odds are it's nothing or at least something easily treated, but it's one of those areas where I'd say definitely go with your gut.

will take him temp in morning and call the vet with the result...id rather play it safe, esp given TrOubles boys presentation.
he seems very bright ... tho now i am thinking prehaps he is a bit lazier than normal.... he was a bit last lustre with his changes and piaff.... :(
hope its nothing, just a minor 'cold' he can have some nice abx and bounce back....

I'd say vet too

Mine had a bit of snot and a bit of a cough. She ended up on 34 days of antibiotics to clear her respiratory infection.

will call the vet. id rather pay 30 call out and be satisfied he is ok....
i dont think its pollen.... he was fine last year and we had a crop of rapeseed next door....
thanks peeps!
